HAPPY BIRTHDAY
BETTY! Betty Enjoying her own Cake on her 47th Birthday!
![]() We celebrated Betty's 47th Birthday on April 30th, 2006. We got two pictures before the camera went nuts and didn't record her diving into it and thoroughly enjoying it! Thanks to all who support her and know that Betty truly enjoyed her day basking in the sunshine and grazing after complete inhalation of her cake in the morning.

The Above Pictures are of "Betty" our current resident at The ARC. |
||
|
Betty was imported from Thailand in 1969 and was sold to Hoxie Brothers Circus. She was 3 to 4 years old when she arrived in the USA. She was one of a five act that was trained by Rex Williams. As a young elephant she had and still has a behavioral problem. But under the guidance of Rex Williams she not only preformed as a circus elephant but also could work, ie. . .pushing, pulling and any other task asked of her. She came to The ARC in 1999 from Canada. Upon her arrival at The ARC, Betty showed very serious aggression to humans and other elephants. After a period of time she settled down to the point that we now can go into her enclosure and work with her side by side. To gain this trust it was done by changing her complete environment. By working with her daily in a human/elephant safe situation very slowly and constant repetition and the stress free environment of The ARC.
2-10-07 It is with great sadness we report that Betty had a stroke on February 8th of 2007 and passed away very peacefully on February 9th. Betty was dearly loved and will be very much missed!
