Sympathies

July 21, 2006

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of Joanna Burke at TES.  She died Friday July, 21, 2006 from injuries sustained on that date.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for the male trainer Scott Blais who was also injured trying to help the woman handler.

Our sympathies go out to the keepers, caretakers and fans of the Knoxville Zoo upon the untimely death of Mamie, an African elephant.
Sympathy and caring thoughts may be sent to Mamie's keepers and the rest of her caregivers at Knoxville Zoo; Attn: Thoughts for Mamie; P.O. Box 6040; Knoxville, TN 37914 or e-mail thoughtsformamie@knoxville-zoo.org.

January 26, 2006

Our sincerest sympathies go out to John Berry - Director of the Smithsonian's National Zoological Park and Marie Galloway, Elephant Manager along with the Team of Professional Trainers and Members of the Medical and Animal Management Teams at the National Zoo on their recent loss of Toni, a 40-year-old Asian elephant at the Zoo, on January 25, following a dramatic decline in her physical condition and quality of life.

We at The ARC are sure her caretakers did all that was possible to make Toni comfortable during her failing health.  While the loss of Toni is one of a national treasure we applaud the fact that these kind and caring caregivers did not prolong her suffering.  While it is always tough to say goodbye to a friend we are sure these caretakers did what was best for Toni.
